Lost & Found Pets
Public Microchip Scanner Station
If you find a lost dog or cat, you may use the public microchip scanner station to check whether the pet has a registered microchip.
The scanner is available to the public:
- 24 hours a day
- 7 days a week
>Click here for Scanner # instructions
- Go to the official search tool: Open the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup.
- Type the number: Enter the 9, 10, or 15-digit microchip number into the search bar without spaces or dashes.
- it will display:
The Registry Name: The company that manages the chip (e.g., HomeAgain, AKC Reunite, PetLink).
The Contact Status: Whether the chip is active and registered.
The Company Phone Number: The customer service line for that specific registry.
- Contact the Registry to Reunite the Pet
Call the listed registry: If you found a lost pet, call the registry company provided by the search results.
Give them the chip number: The company will look up the owner's private file in their secure database.
Wait for them to connect you: The registry company will directly call or text the owner to let them know their pet has been found.
Many pets are microchipped, and a quick scan may help reunite pets with their owners without needing to transport the animal to a shelter or veterinary office.
